Guild Policies
Our guidelines on general topics

1. Communication: In-Game

Whispers of the Fallen is generally classified as a Medium/Light Roleplaying guild based upon the nature of our communication and the guild's overall style and approach. While all of our face-to-face interactions (/say) are strictly In-Character, our Guild Channel (/g) is a laid-back mix of both In- and Out-of-Character chatter. We do, however, request that our members use discretion in their choice of subject matter discussed within Guild Chat and try not to flood the channel with too much off-topic discussion. Communications within Party Chat (/p) and Raid Chat (/ra) are never expected to be In-Character.

2. Communication: Voice

The guild leases a 25-slot Ventrilo server which supports all of our VoIP needs. All members may connect to this server at any time, and guests are always welcome to join (so long as they remain polite and respectful). Also, we require that both members and guests alike connect using their exact character name. If you are logged into the game under an unfamiliar Alt, we ask that you please update your Ventrilo Comment with the Alt's name.

The "lobby" into which one is first joined upon connecting is, by default, silent. One should select (by double-clicking) the appropriate channel they wish to join. The channel "Main Lobby" is indicated for casual chat only, and should be used as a general place of gathering for conversation.

A number of separate group channels, such as "The Courtyard," are available for various questing, instances, and raid groups. Please select and join your group to one of these separate rooms if you plan on using Ventrilo for communication during your activity. Also, please respect those currently within these private rooms, as they may be preoccupied with an in-game activity (such as an instance or raid). This means you are to keep out of these occupied private rooms unless you are explicitly invited by an occupant or you have obtained an occupant's permission in-game,. Failure to adhere to this rule may result in suspension or revokation of Ventrilo privileges.

The ability to connect and listen within our Ventrilo server is required in order to join us on any raid that we host. Also, we reserve the right to revoke anyone's access to this server at any time, for any reason.

3. Conduct

All members of Whispers of the Fallen are expected to make a point of treating each other with sincere respect at all times, regardless of one's title or standing. We very often make jokes and tease one another, but it is important to behave maturely and ensure that our comments do not cross the line and seriously offend anyone. By the same token, every member is expected to have a fairly thick skin and try to avoid taking things too seriously or personally. In general, use common sense and basic courtesy when dealing with others.

4. Members Assisting Members

When particular challenges become too daunting it is always nice to have a strong, powerful family available to come assist you. Our members greatly enjoy helping each other excel in all dimensions.

However, it is important to understand that every individual has his or her own adventures to tackle, and someone may not always be available to lend a hand at all times. There are many valuable lessons to be gleaned from tackling and conquering a problem using one's own resourcefulness, up to and including the assembly of local adventurers who may also share many of your tasks.

Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • Lower level players are welcome in the guild with the understanding that they cannot rely on higher level players for assistance in leveling, running instances, or questing.
  • Lower level players may ask for help from the guild if they have exhausted all other opportunities to acquire assistance from the LFG system and associated chat channel. When asking for help, however, it is not acceptable to beg in guild chat or draw extra attention to yourself.
  • Lower level players must understand that the raiding members of the guild have difficult and time consuming things that they must do to be prepared for raiding.
  • Lower level players must understand why we expect them to level on their own, or with other guild members of similar level.
  • You cannot learn teamwork if you are consistantly escorted through the more difficult content of the game.
  • You will not learn how to play your character and spec effectively if you are not forced to learn everything they are capable of.
  • We do not want any player in our raids who is not willing to put the time into his/her own character to figure things out.
  • We do not want any player in our raids who expects things to be handed to them without putting forth any effort to earn them on his/her own.
  • We understand that some things can be challenging to accomplish on one's own, and you may need help on occassion. If it is convenient to other members at the time, help may be provided upon polite request.

5. Joining and Leaving

The guild recognizes applications from the public for main characters -- that is, one's highest-leveled and/or most-played character on the realm. Applications for characters that would otherwise be considered "alts" are not recognized if we do not already have that player's "main" character within the guild.

Candidates wishing to join the guild must submit an application in order to be considered for membership. Following review of this application, the applicant may be contacted via email with instructions for arranging an interview with a Harbinger (senior officer). Although our officers will often attempt to contact approved applicants in-game, the responsibility for making initial contact and arranging the interview rests completely upon the applicant. We regret that not all applications we receive will necessarily receive a response.

If a Harbinger decides to recruit an applicant, he or she joins the guild as an Initiate.* Initiates are subject to a probationary period of approximately two (2) weeks wherein their behavior, attitude, and personality are observed. A recruit's behavior during this period is critical to their future within the Fallen.

The decision to leave Whispers of the Fallen is entirely within the discretion of each member. Eligibility to return to the guild, however, is contingent upon the circumstances surrounding the member's departure. In almost every case, failure to give prior notice to Elder Cartagia before leaving will eliminate the possibility to return to the guild.

The following describes some example contingencies regarding member resignation:

Circumstances that allow the possibility of readmittance:
  • Politely leaving in order to avoid continuation of a serious interpersonal issue.
  • The need for time off from guild membership in general.
Circumstances that do not allow the possibility of readmittance:
  • Leaving to join a different guild.
  • Leaving due to a personal issue/dispute with a fellow member without first addressing the guild's leadership.
  • Having been removed from the guild by decision of the leadership.

Please keep in mind that neither the guild nor its leadership are ever under any obligation to readmit anyone who has departed from Whispers of the Fallen, and each specific case is assessed individualy.

Regarding removal from the guild: If for any reason the leadership feels that our guild would be better off without you, it will be.

6. Alternate Charcters

Any member of the title Aspirant and above may bring any number of their alts into the guild.

In order for members to receive a guild invitation for their Alt, they must first contact an officer (Disciple or above) in-game via their main character with their request and Alt's name. Upon approval, the invitation for the Alt is then available immediately.

Alternate Characters ("Alts") are subject to the exact same rules and guidelines that govern any other member.

Alt ranks will be duly affected by any change in rank of the member's main character, up to and including promotions to Disciple.

7. Multiple Players Per Character

We do not allow third-party individuals who play the characters of guild members to participate within the guild in any way. This includes making comments in guild chat as well as use of our Ventrilo server.

Members who fail to adhere to this rule risk suspension and removal from the guild.

8. Absenteeism

In order to help keep the in-game guild roster relevant and manageable, any members who have not logged into the game for a duration over one month's time (without first requesting a "Leave of Absence") will be subject to dismissal from the guild without notice. Any member who is ejected for this reason may be eligible to rejoin upon direct request to Elder Cartagia, by whisper or by mail.

Please let an officer know if any extenuating circumstances arise that require an extended leave of absence, and we will grant your character an official leave of absence.
