|
|
Heya folks,
Most of you already know that Mitska and I have been participating in the Cataclysm beta over the last few weeks, which is the other main reason for our absence (aside from stupid work schedules).
I've managed to put together some really awesome screenshots of the sights we've come across in the beta - ranging from hilarious beta BS to truly epic scenes that Blizzard has masterfully crafted together to tell the story.
Before anyone complains, I've divided the screens into three parts - non-spoilers, moderate spoilers, and ... spoilers. Since a lot of people don't want to spoil themselves too much, I've colored any spoiler text and links black. To view them, simply highlight the text by click/dragging your mouse over the area.
If anyone would like me to get screenshots of specific areas or things, feel free to post requests.
Without further ado, I'll start with the non-spoiler stuff. _________________ "Meg's mom went to the Dominican Republic last year. Does that count?" - Meg |

NON-SPOILERS - This section contains screenshots that are basically random things that have cropped up during the Beta. Ranges from odd doodads I found laying around, to hilarious glitches. Technically, you might see some things from new areas in the game, but nothing that will truly spoil you or hint at the story progression.

Just some cool screenshots I took of the new water rendering... looks MUCH better than the existing water.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/SWbank.jpg
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/SWFountain.jpg
Some screenshots of some minor changes in Stormwind's appearance - mainly the bank interior and the fountain right outside the bank.
These are TINY compared to how much has actually changed in Stormwind.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/CataGear.jpg
Ty in his quest greens. They haven't done any skins for the new gear yet. Yes, that is a board with a nail in it.
Also, those greens are ilvl 272.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/RogueShoulders.jpg
Hilarious glitch of a rogue's shoulders when I was standing near a target dummy. Checkered Box < These
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Scarecrow.jpg
A cool looking scarecrow in the basement of one of the houses in Gilneas. Top hat scarecrow FTW.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Worms.jpg
Can o' worms. Also in Gilneas.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/WTF.jpg
This one I just took today. Last night they patched the beta, so I downloaded it and loaded it up today. And this is what happened. This is actually a screenshot of the central area in Deepholm, but I put it in the non-spoilers because there aren't any spoilers... hell, you can't even see most of the terrain. Ironically, this is actually a noticeable improvement compared to what it looked like at first. My whole screen was a giant down arrow. Anyways, updating the good ole' video card drivers fixed it. _________________ "Meg's mom went to the Dominican Republic last year. Does that count?" - Meg

MODERATE SPOILERS - This section contains screenshots that mostly show terrain in new zones or things that might hint at story progression. These screenshots are mostly to whet your appetite without ruining TOO much, but some people might still think of them as spoilers. View at your own risk.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Uglyfish.jpg
An amusing little fish that was part of the terrain in Vashj'ir. This would be in the non-spoilers but for gigantic shellfish in the background.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/JawsOfDeath.jpg
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/WhaleShark.jpg
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/WhaleSharkScale.jpg
Whale Sharks. Catacylsm's Fel Reaver. These things are TERRIFYING. They have hit boxes that range in the thousands of yards, so ANY AoE attacks even remotely near a whale shark will call that mofo down on you. Also they hit for 250k on plate. And can swim through walls and up onto shore. First screenshot is what your impending death looks like. Second is an awesome screen I took that actually got featured on wow.com a few days ago. Third screenshot gives an example of the scale of these things. Yes, those are ships.

http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Goblin2.jpg
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Goblin3.jpg
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Goblin4.jpg
Some teasers for the goblin starting zone. I cannot even begin to describe how awesome the goblin starting zone experience is. More goblin screenshots are posted in the spoilers section because they contain, well... spoilers. Kazzai is Mitska, Hamz is myself.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Greymane%20Mansion.jpg
I don't have as many screens of the Worgen starting zone because I was too busy drooling over it. The look and feel of the entire zone and experience can be summed up with this one shot. Seriously. Imagine an ENTIRE ZONE like that.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Maelstrom.jpg
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/IntoMaelstrom.jpg
Posted these here because they aren't really spoilers... it just looks REALLY COOL. This is your portal into Deepholm, available at either 81 or 82... not sure which (but it's not available at 80, I know that much). Obviously, I tried to jump into it manually first. I died horribly.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Uldum.jpg
Screenshot of the exterior of Uldum. This is one of the areas I'm looking forward to the most. At the time I took this shot, the whole area was not accessible, as there was an invisible wall preventing me from entering. _________________ "Meg's mom went to the Dominican Republic last year. SPOILERS - These screenshots almost definitely give away something about the plot and progression through Cataclysm. If you don't want any spoilers, do not view these screenshots.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Sulfuron%20Keep.jpg
Epic screenshot of the exterior of Sulfuron Keep near the end of the Hyjal quest chains. In the lower right, Ragnaros dukes it out with Ysera.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Ozumat.jpg
Blizzard's take on the Kraken. Ozumat is more or less one of the biggest baddies in Vashj'ir, and is actually the final boss of one of the new instances, Throne of the Tides. He shot by too quickly for me to disable nameplates, so this is the best shot I got.
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/Neptulon.jpg
http://whispersofthefallen.com/Upload/Tygragaris/NeptulonVsNazjar.jpg
Neptulon, the elemental lord of water. He's basically the water version of Ragnaros, but a LOT bigger. The second screenshot shows him fighting against Lady Naz'jar, and her naga... shortly before they summon Ozumat and drag him down into the Abyss and hold him captive in his own domain. Throne of the Tides is centered around you saving Neptulon from Ozumat.
And finally, more Goblin zone screenshots. These are but a portion of the true epicness that is this zone. Any screenshots that have the UI enabled... take a look at the chat log or tooltip text- I left the UI up for a reason in those shots.

Haven't you heard? There's no weapon skillups in Cataclysm. _________________ "Meg's mom went to the Dominican Republic last year. Does that count?" - Meg |

lololol yes, Gang, please try to take on a whale shark unarmed. Maybe I should think of this as the sea's sweet sweet revenge. _________________ "Don't mock my vocabulary at this hour."

| My roommate's trying to say he doesn't want to play Cataclysm because there won't be much new. "Yeah, some things may be altered, but there won't be much new." |

| Well Dan's an idiot, take that into consideration. When I've been leveling alts through BC content, it seems a lot harder than the WotLK content and people I've pugged with that have beta keys say that the content is more akin to BC than Wrath especially in terms of coordination and CC in instances. The whole water aspect has got to add another element (get it?) to the gameplay. I was wondering if we still swim at normal speed and breath is an issue or are there items/consumables to help that? |

Without spoiling too much, I'll say that you don't need to worry about breathing underwater at all - you get a zone-specific buff to deal with that in a timely fashion. There are also a couple of ways underwater travel is sped up as well.
Edit: This is talking about Vashj'ir, by the way. In the 'regular' zones, underwater stuff is basically the same as usual. |

This is completely false. Almost EVERYTHING is different in some way, even the newbie areas and the quests therein (Exception: TBC and WotLK content, they are unchanged aside from the mandatory item stat adjustments).
Cataclysm may as well be World of Warcraft 2. _________________ "Meg's mom went to the Dominican Republic last year. Does that count?" - Meg |
